KING OF

CARVING

Built to provide an experience unlike any ski on the market. They are built to foster the ultimate connection between skier and snow.

CAMBER + ROCKER = PERFORMANCE

At Northland our premier goal is to make the greatest performance ski on the slopes. While modern technology and materials go a long way in supporting the desired behavior of a ski, the foundation of a great ski is in the design.

Camber refers to the arch that forms when the ski is at rest. It allows the ski maintain the utmost potential for energy to be transferred throughout the turn, making every turn feel lively and fun. At the same time, camber also lends resistance to the ski overflexing and washing out as the user drives through the turn. We believe that early rise, and tail rockered skis have made it far more difficult to engage and drive through the completion of a turn. Which is why every single model of Northland will feature Camber from tip to tail.

We also have integrated a design that features a wide tip and tail, with a narrow waist to create the ultimate performance sidecut. Our sidecut does not start midway through the length of the ski, it begins at the point of contact with the snow allowing for easier and more efficient edging both in entry and throughout the entirety of the turn.

When working in conjunction with the Camber, our aggressive sidecut that runs from tip to tail creates a turn that is easy to initiate, is smooth throughout the carve, and has bite through the finish of the turn until the user releases pressure and the ski returns to its original form.

TIP + TAIL

The wide tip tapers to a narrow underfoot and flares back out at the tail serving multiple purposes, creating such a drastic sidecut that you can engage the entire ski in the turn and not just a small portion of the ski edge. The wide tip and tail prevent the ski from sinking and diving in deeper snow.

The shape and the camber allow you to expend minimal energy, obtain maximum functionality, make smaller turns, and avoid lines you don’t want to take and trees you don’t want to hit.

Our Tech

We use a 100% sustainable wood core for its durability, performance, and a nod to the origins of skiing. We begin with our exclusive tri-wood core made of Pine/Ash/Hickory. The core is then combined with full-length sheets of Kevlar, carbon fiber, and triaxial weave fiberglass to optimize diversity – quick responsiveness at slower speeds and stability and reliability at high speeds.

Northland Ski Manufacturing Company got its start in St. Paul, MN in 1912. Northland has been credited as the catalyst in creating America’s love of skiing. Many skiers recall Northland’s being their first pair of skis.

From its earliest days, Northland was committed to the quality of their skis and to the sport of skiing. The copy from an 1944 ad read, “When you buy Northlands you buy the finest – for Northland’s are indeed the choice of champions. Whether you are a novice or expert be sure your skis proudly wear the Deer Head trade-mark of NORTHLAND, because the better the skis, the better your skiing.” Northland skis were the skis of choice for Olympic skiers as they were widely known for performance and unsurpassed quality.

Hear what our customers have to say:

I was hooked the moment I clicked the binding in on the Northland CL178’s and took my first run down the Steamboat slopes. The carve was so much more controlled than the Atomics skis I had just ditched. It defied logic. Normally, when I hear some new equipment will blow me away, I assume it is marketing fluff. I have long subscribed to the old school of “it’s the archer not the arrow”. But I could feel the difference from the start with the Northland skis.

I love to ski on handcrafted labor’s of love. The Northland Sport Carvers are a ski that translates the language and the passion by which they were created to an expression of performance, high-adventure and integrity. Perfect for the all-mountain explorer that also likes to jump in the gates and blow the pipes out!

Chris had us demo some Northlands in December, 2022, at Steamboat Resort. They are well made, shaped skis with some weight to them. This makes it easier to turn and carve up the slopes in most snow conditions on all terrain.

They are made out of wood, and I was pleasantly surprised how well I skied on them; therefore, I highly recommend this brand.   Chris did a great job fitting us to some demos and we had a great time!

“I was skeptical about these throwback looking skis and then I demo’d a pair. Whoa! I was impressed by how versatile they were. They work great in the bumps and carve like a dream. Needless to say, bought the 90mm underfoot wider setup. I’ve skied them in Steamboat and Sun Valley last year. Performed well in varied conditions.”

I ski more than 100 days a year as a ski instructor at Aspen/Snowmass. I used my extensive background as a ski racer for reaching level 3 PSIA-AASI certification. I know skis and I know what I want to feel when I’m looking for performance. When I tip my Northland Skis on edge, the tip of the skis interact with the snow and the skis immediately begins to push back against the sole of my boot. They give an incredibly round carved or blended turn that allows me to complete my turns every time. This type of performance is usually only found in a racing ski. While racing skis are limited in the scope of terrain they prefer, I find my Northland Skis to be incredibly versatile from carving up groomers to busting down powdery chutes. I’ve finally found an all mountain carving ski!
